The third time probably won’t be a charm for the Bills in the kicking department, as Buffalo placed yet another leg on Injured Reserve this week.
Journeyman Dave Rayner, who came in to replace longtime Bills kicker Rian Lindell after he suffered a broken shoulder in Week 9, was placed on IR with an unconfirmed injury Wednesday, though he had been suffering from a sore pelvis.
“He came up sore again Monday,” coach Chan Gailey told the media Wednesday. “He’s not sure he can be 100 percent, and you can’t take a chance when you walk out there if it’s one kick and done on a cold day or something like that. You can’t afford to have that so that’s why we had to make the move.”
Enter Brandon Coutu, who has never played a single game in the NFL and was recently released from the Jaguars practice squad.
Coutu, a seventh-round pick by the Seahawks in 2008, spent time in the UFL earlier this year with the Las Vegas Locomotives before heading to Jacksonville, where he lasted all of two weeks. The 27-year-old Georgia alum is sixth all-time in points with 262 for the Bulldogs, graduating with a 79 percent completion average (he completed all of his PATs) and a long of 58 yards.
