Patriots coach Bill Belichick didn’t have much to say Friday about quarterback Tom Brady’s suspected left-shoulder injury, apparently suffered during last Sunday’s game vs. the Dolphins in Miami, other than that he expects Brady to be a go this week vs. the Bills.
Brady was listed on the team’s official injury report Friday.
“If he’s out there on the field, you’ll know how I feel about him,” Belichick told the media on Friday. “If he’s not out there, it won’t be because we don’t have confidence in him. It will be for other reasons.”
Hmmm.
Brady was listed as a “non-injury absence” on Wednesday, then as “limited” on Thursday. Belichick said Brady was able to “play quarterback — the usual thing” on Thursday, but several media outlets reported Brady was favoring his non-throwing shoulder. It’s the same shoulder Brady had x-rays done on at some point between the end of Sunday’s game in Miami and Thursday before practice.
The x-rays indicated no shoulder separation or any other serious injury, but Belichick went on to say that Brady practiced “just the way we listed him,” seconds after saying he was able to do “the usual thing. He was listed as “limited.”
Sound confusing? That’s because it is.
At this point, it’s obvious Brady will be starting the game, and probably playing throughout, but there’s obviously an injury to be considered. What we don’t know is just how potentially serious the left shoulder of Brady could be.
The Patriots host the Bills in the regular-season finale on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. The Bills have the opportunity to sweep the Pats after beating them earlier this season. It’d be the first divisional-rival sweep of the Patriots in over a decade.
