According to New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz, "teams aren't really scared of (Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis) anymore."
And why would they be? asked Revis. "I'm not a monster."
Well, teams should be scared of Darrelle Revis because he's the best cornerback in the game, even if Cruz's fellow receiver Hakeem Nicks thinks he's "decent," as Nicks said this week when asked if Revis was the best corner in the NFL.
The comments didn't faze Revis. “These guys can say whatever they want to say,” he told the media Thursday. “And you just laugh at it. You laugh, and say, ‘OK. We’ll see come (game) time.’"
Teams have in fact thrown more in Revis's direction this year, but they're only connecting on less than half of attempts. Revis has gotten beat only a couple times up top and really only gives up slant routes, which is going to happen periodically when the corner is playing man-to-man with no safety on top, trying to keep the receiver in front.
"He almost has zero help a lot of times," Jets coach Rex Ryan said Thursday. "I don’t know if it’s ever been done. I don’t know if it’s ever done.
"Has he given up a couple of completions? Yeah. And the funny thing is, we’ve talked before, I mean, we’re surprised. It’s like, 'Oh, he gave up an 8-yard route. What is going on with Revis?'"
