The only thing the Buffalo Bills did consistently Sunday was stink on third down. To the Miami Dolphins, it was a familiar sight.
The Dolphins' defense held the Bills' offense to an 0-for-11 conversion tally on third down in Miami's 30-23 victory over Buffalo at Ralph Wilson Stadium Sunday. The Bills also failed to convert on a single third down when the Dolphins blew out the Bills in November.
"We usually get these third downs. I don’t know, I guess we just got to get back to the drawing boards," Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson told the media after the game. "We should’ve said this seven weeks ago. I don’t really know what else to say. We just got to come out next week with passion and aggression."
The Dolphins' defense has been stout for most of the season, but even Miami was a bit surprised at what it has been able to accomplish against the Bills on third down.
"I've never heard of that before," Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles told the media after the game. "We've been lucky a little, but they've helped us out some, and we've got guys over there studying and really playing hard."
