Miami Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles was responsible for the entire team Sunday in his first game as Miami's head guy. However, Bowles couldn't help but be particularly excited about the individual group he's been in charge of the past few years.
Bowles has coached the Dolphins' secondary since 2008, and he has watched third-year cornerback Vontae Davis make some big strides as of late.
Davis grabbed two interceptions Sunday in the Dolphins' victory over the Buffalo Bills. Davis has four picks in the past six games, with all seven of his passes defensed coming in that span.
Davis also tallied his first career sack two weeks ago against the Oakland Raiders.
"I can’t say enough about Vontae the past couple weeks," Bowles told the media Monday. "The guy's been making plays. He’s been studying more. He’s becoming a true professional."
Davis missed four games this season, partially due to injury and partially due to a team-imposed suspension for showing up to practice with alcohol on his breath. Davis, however, has been better than solid the second half of the season.
