Gailey on an answer to Bills' woes: 'I don't have it'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

If there's one thing Chan Gailey does well, it's hold himself accountable.

The Buffalo Bills coach has watched his team lose six games in a row after starting the season 5-2, and Gailey hasn't bothered to try and make excuses.

"It’s my responsibility to find the answer but I don’t have it,” Gailey told the media Sunday.

Gailey has taken ownership of Buffalo's shortcomings during the latter half of the season, saying that the Bills haven't changed their approach but can't find a sliver of the consistency they had early in the season.

"... we're not very good right now," Gailey said.

The Bills were able to Band-Aid injury setbacks early on, but Buffalo's loss in key personnel finally caught up to them. The absence of would-be Pro-Bowler running back Fred Jackson has essentially been the nail in the coffin. Buffalo had placed 15 players on Injured Reserve entering Sunday.

Buffalo, which has gotten subpar play from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick since signing him to a $59 million contract extension midway through the year, is only a game ahead of the Miami Dolphins, who started the season 0-7.

"I don’t think we are good right now, but we can be respectable," Gailey said.

The Bills face Miami Sunday.
