Giants take ownership of NY with win over Jets

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Rex Ryan wanted to find out who the better New York team was Saturday. He found out.

Ryan's New York Jets were awful on offense, anemic on special teams and not good enough on defense, falling to the New York Giants, 29-14, and seeing their playoff hopes take a huge shot.

"They were the better team today, the better team this season," Ryan told the media after the game. "Clearly, I was wrong."

The Jets (8-7) held the momentum early by scoring on their opening offensive drive, but Eli Manning and Victor Cruz connected for a 99-yard touchdown play late in the first half to steal the fire. The Jets never recovered despite multiple chances to get back into the game.

Manning finished the game with just nine completions on 27 attempts, while Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez attempted a career-high 59 pass attempts on 64 dropbacks. He completed 30 passes with a passing touchdown, a rushing touchdown and two interceptions. He was also sacked for a safety.

Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer made poor decision after poor decision, which is illustrated by Sanchez's attempt total. New York's run game was rolling, but he opted to go to the air.

Ahmad Bradshaw scored two rushing touchdowns for the Giants (8-7).
