The New York Jets' offensive line will be up against a hot pass rush when the Jets (7-5) host the Kansas City Chiefs (5-7) Sunday.
The Chiefs' defense has recorded 11 sacks in the last three games, including seven last Sunday against the Chicago Bears and three against the New England Patriots three weeks ago. Kansas City tallied just nine sacks through the first nine games.
"They got to Brady a few times which is hard to do, but the seven-sack performance this past week is an indication of how this team really is rushing the passer now," Jets coach Rex Ryan told the media Wednesday.
Linebacker Justin Houston recorded three quarterback takedowns last week, but Ryan said the guy the Jets will have to "have your antenna up for" is linebacker Tamba Hali.
"They’ll put him all over the place," Ryan said. "It’s not like he’s always going to be on the right or always on the left. They move him all over the place, so we certainly have to know where he’s at."
Hali leads the Chiefs with eight sacks and two forced fumbles.
"They’re an active defense. They’re fast-flow," Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez told the media Wednesday. "They get after the ballcarrier whether it’s the quarterback, receiver or running back. They have a great pass rush and their secondary is good enough to hold up until they get to the quarterback, so we really have to run on the perimeter, get open downfield and our running game has to be strong again."
