Jets still in control of destiny despite blowout loss

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The New York Jets played what quarterback Mark Sanchez called "embarrassing, not good, terrible football" in a 45-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.

But as crazy as it sounds, it's no harm, no foul for the Jets (8-6), at least for now. Because of the Oakland Raiders' fourth-quarter collapse to the Detroit Lions, the Jets still hold the final Wildcard spot and will make the playoffs if they win their last two games.

"We entered the game thinking we had to run the table and that we control our own destiny," Jets coach Rex Ryan told the media after the game. "We come out of the game, we need to win the rest of the games to control our own destiny. So it does count just for one game, but obviously, that's about as bad as it gets."

The Jets "host" the New York Giants Saturday before traveling to Miami to take on the recently-hot Dolphins the finish the regular season.

"It's sitting right in front of us," Ryan said. "We gotta win two games, regardless of losing to (the Eagles) or not."
