The NFL announced Friday that New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo was fined $25,000 for a hit last Sunday on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Dan Orlovsky.
Mayo wasn't penalized for the play during New England's 31-24 victory over Indianapolis, but a league spokesman said Mayo "struck the quarterback in the head and neck area," which drew the fine.
The hit definitely deserved a fine based on league actions on the past, though $25,000 is definitely steep. Mayo was fined $10,000 last season for a hit against the Buffalo Bills.
