Moore's had many roles, but plays 'starter' pretty well

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Matt Moore tossed five touchdowns to 10 picks in six games last season with the Carolina Panthers. Moore moved south to don a Miami Dolphins uniform this season, and in 11 games, he's throw 12 touchdowns to six interceptions.

The fifth-year player out of Oregon State has played the role of third-stringer, backup and starter throughout his career. He's doing the last one pretty well in 2011.

"He's an athletic guy," New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the media Tuesday. "He doesn't turn the ball over, he's making good decisions, getting the ball to their good skill players [Reggie] Bush and [Brandon] Marshall and [Anthony] Fasano and [Brian] Hartline, Davone [Bess] and all those guys."

Moore took over the starting gig in Miami when quarterback Chad Henne went down to a shoulder injury Week 4. As a starter this season, he is 5-5 and has helped the Dolphins win five of their last seven games. Moore has put up two three-touchdown, no-interception games this year.

"They've been productive; scoring in the red area," Belichick said. "He can run if he has to but he can make the throws too - get the ball down the field, get it to his receivers and let them do the work, like a good quarterback does."

The Dolphins will be in decision mode this offseason, as Henne is in the last year of his rookie deal and Moore is signed through next season.
