Clowney among Bills' reserve future signings

BY DAN BEGNOCHE

Buffalo combed through the list of potential pickups for their 2012 roster this week, and many familiar faces rose to the surface.

Former Jets wide receiver David Clowney headed the list of potential free-agent signings the Bills released Friday, as Buffalo seems intent on solidifying its passing attack now that they’ve locked in Ryan Fitzpatrick for the long term.

Clowney played for New York for four seasons, though only really contributed in 2009, when he had 14 receptions for nearly 200 yards and a touchdown. The Virginia Tech grad has been out of football since he was cut by the Carolina Panthers at the start of the 2011 season.

The Bills also eyed linebacker Scott McKillop, a 2009 fifth-round pick out of Pittsburgh. McKillop has been battling injury the past year, but was an All-American in college and will be reunited with his former Panther coach Dave Wannstedt, Buffalo’s new defensive coordinator. The 25-year-old had 288 combined tackles, seven sacks and three picks his final two seasons at Pitt.

The five other potentials — LB Robert Eddins, DB Prince Miller, DE Jay Ross, G Jake Vermiglio and G Keith Williams — were all on Buffalo’s practice squad this past season.
