QBs stunk last time Patriots, Ravens met in playoffs

BY NICK ST. DENIS

If you don't remember the last time the Patriots and Ravens met in the playoffs, that's because it wasn't very memorable... at least from a quarterback standpoint.

Tom Brady threw three interceptions to two touchdowns, amassing just 154 yards and losing a fumble in New England's 33-14 loss to Baltimore in the 2009 Wildcard Round.

Joe Flacco was even worse, completing just four of 10 passes for 34 yards while adding an interception and no touchdowns. Hey, at least he didn't fumble.

Flacco carried a 2.8 passer rating into halftime, having gained only nine yards. In the first quarter alone, Brady threw two of his picks and put the ball on the ground.

While those numbers will be hard to match, the defenses will be looking to attack their opponents the same way.

Baltimore will need to use confusion and try to overpower a stout New England front in order to get to a red-hot Brady, who threw six touchdown passes last weekend in a blowout victory over the Broncos.

Flacco is probably a little more of a threat this time around, but the Ravens' main weapon is still running back Ray Rice. Rice slashed the Patriots in that 2009 playoff game with 159 yards and two touchdowns, the first of which was an 83-yarder that came on the game's first play from scrimmage. New England will first look to get him in check.
