Brian Schottenheimer plans to call plays in the NFL, but he won't be doing it in green and white.
The former Jets offensive coordinator will be named the Rams' new offensive coordinator pending a contract agreement, according to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi.
Schottenheimer spent his last six years leading the Jets' offense but informed the team he would not return following the 2011 season. He was then replaced by former Dolphins coach Tony Sparano.
Once his deal is finalized, Schottenheimer, who reportedly interviewed for the Rams gig Sunday morning, will work under Jeff Fisher, as Fisher was recently hired by the Rams as head coach.
Following an incredibly underwhelming season, Schottenheimer was looking for a fresh start. Schotty never really won over the Gang Green faithful, and his job seemed to be on the line, at least as far as the fans were concerned, at the end of at least half of his seasons with the Jets.
If history repeats itself, Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will be better off without him.
