Curtis Martin gets no-brainer nod into Hall of Fame

BY NICK ST. DENIS

As if there were any doubt.

Curtis Martin, who spent eight years as the Jets' running back after three years with the Patriots, will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Martin rushed for over 1,000 yards in his first 10 NFL seasons and worked his way to fourth on the all-time rushing list before retiring in 2005.

"It's one of the most humbling feelings I've had in my entire career," Martin said via phone interview during the NFL Network's Hall of Fame Announcement Show Saturday.

Martin said the honor, however, was "bittersweet," as Martin's former coach Bill Parcells wasn't part of the 2012 class.

"He has meant so much to my career," Martin said of Parcells. "He taught me not only how to be a professional athlete, he had a lot to do with teaching me how to be a man."

Defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy, defensive end Chris Doleman, left tackle Willie Roaf, center Dermontti Dawson and cornerback Jack Butler were also named to the 2012 class.
