Beating the Giants just isn't in the cards for the Patriots.
New England lost its second Super Bowl to New York in as many tries, falling, 21-17, Sunday night in Indianapolis. It was the Patriots' third straight loss to the Giants.
"We just couldn't quite make enough plays," Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the media in a rather shortened post game press conference. "Giants made a few more than we did."
Giants quarterback Eli Manning (pictured) orchestrated an 88-yard touchdown drive at the end of the fourth quarter, helping his team take the last go-ahead lead of the game while earning MVP honors. Manning finished the game 30-for-40 for 296 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw two touchdowns but also tossed a pick.
The Giants' game-winning touchdown was scored on an Ahmad Bradshaw run. Bradshaw tried to stop at the goal line for clock-killing purposes but fell into the end zone. It didn't matter, as the Patriots were unable to drive for the comeback score with under a minute to go.
"We tried to take a little more time off the clock, but it didn't work that way," Giants coach Tom Coughlin told the media. "Thank God it worked out."
