After getting rid of one Marshall, 'Phins sign another

BY SEAN DONOVAN

Free agent cornerback Richard Marshall, formerly of the Cardinals, announced via his Twitter account that he signed a three-year deal with the Dolphins Wednesday night. ESPN's Adam Schefter later reported that the deal was worth $16 million with $6 million guaranteed.

Marshall will be a solid addition to a secondary that was the weakness of an otherwise good Dolphins defense. He is versatile enough to play either nickel back or free safety.

Veteran Will Allen, who played nickel back in 2011, is a free agent and likely will not be back.

Marshall was drafted by the Panthers in the second round of the 2006 draft. The former Fresno State Bulldog has recorded 17 interceptions and seven sacks in his six-year NFL career.
