Jets go all-in with Sanchez, extend QB 3 more years

BY NICK ST. DENIS

No more questions at quarterback for the Jets. At least as far as the money is concerned.

Gang Green signed Mark Sanchez to a three-year extension, making the fourth-year signal-caller, who had two years left on his contract, a Jet for at least five more years.

"I'm really excited to announce we've reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension with Mark," Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum told the New York media via conference call, according to the team's website. "Mark's a guy we identified that we wanted to sign to an extension.

"It started several weeks ago. Mark's our starter and we're excited about 2012. From my standpoint it's Mark and Rex going into year 4. Talking to Woody [Johnson] about it, we feel really comfortable with those two positions."

The Jets reportedly did their due diligence with free agent quarterback Peyton Manning, though it was widely-assumed that a Peyton-to-New York conclusion was a long shot from the start.

Rich Cimini of ESPN New York is reporting that Sanchez is guaranteed $20.5 million over the remainder of his deal with $40.5 million in "new money" factored in.

"This is one of the greatest cities in the country," Sanchez said. "To have the success we had, especially the first two years, was so much fun. And to find out that I'm coming back back for three more years means so much me. I'm absolutely pleased to be a Jet."
