Aaron Maybin was expected to sign a one-year tender with the Jets. Gang Green made it official Monday.
Maybin, who recorded six sacks and four forced fumbles last year in 13 games with the Jets, tweeted the news Monday morning.
"Just inked the new contract..." Maybin (pictured) wrote on Twitter. "blessed 2 have this opportunity. Time 2 go to work #mayhem"
Maybin was drafted by the Bills in the first round in 2009. After failing to make a single sack in two seasons with Buffalo, the Bills released him last summer. The Jets signed Maybin for good early in the 2011 season.
Monday, New York also signed reserve defensive back DeAngelo Smith to a one-year deal before acquiring defensive end Jay Richardson.
Smith isn't expected to be more than a depth player for training camp, as he hasn't seen the field in an NFL game since 2009. The 2009 fifth-round pick by the Cowboys spent stints with the Browns, Bears and Lions.
Richardson, a former Raider and Seahawk, has seven career sacks and 86 tackles but didn't play last season.
