Bill Polian did a lot for the Bills, and the Bills are giving something back.
The team announced Sunday it will induct Polian, a former general manager of the Bills, into its Wall of Fame.
Polian was responsible for building a team that went to four straight Super Bowls in the late 1980s and early '90s.
“His tremendous ability to bring to our team so many outstanding players was the perfect complement to Marv Levy’s superb coaching talents,” Bills owner Ralph Wilson said in a statement. “When you see the names on the Wall of Fame--Kelly, Thomas, Hull, Smith, Reed and so many others--it just seems appropriate that Bill’s name is included.”
Polian helped Buffalo acquire quarterback Jim Kelly and drafted Hall of Fame defensive end Bruce Smith in addition to receiver Andre Reed and running back Thurman Thomas.
Now an analyst on ESPN, Polian most recently GMed for the Colts after spending time with the Panthers. He won a Super Bowl with Indianapolis in 2006.
“I have said numerous times and I’m sure I’ll repeat numerous times as this comes closer that I owe Mr. Wilson an incredible debt of gratitude because he took a chance on an unknown and gave me my start," Polian said, according to the team's website. "I still can’t really find the right words to describe how I feel except to tell you it’s just an incredible joy to have this happen.”
