Jets sign 'A-back' rookie Ganaway to 4-year deal

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The Jets announced Monday they signed sixth-round draft choice running back Terrance Ganaway. Multiple media outlets are reporting Ganaway, a former Baylor standout, inked a four-year deal with Gang Green.

Ganaway, who stands at 6 feet, 240 pounds, is the third Jets draft pick to be signed. New York already agreed to terms with second-round receiver Stephen Hill and sixth-round safety Josh Bush.

Ganaway will enter camp as New York's fourth tailback behind Shonn Greene, Joe McKnight and Bilal Powell, though he'll likely see plenty of opportunities during preseason to prove his worth on the depth chart.

"I think Rex [Ryan] or Mike [Tannenbaum] used the term 'A-back' in one of their press conferences, and that's really what we wanted to find," Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano said, according to NewYorkJets.com. "We wanted to find a guy that I look at him like an A-back, being a back of Shonn [Greene]'s size, where a B-back is more a Reggie Bush, a [Darren] Sproles, those types of players, a little bit more of a scatty type of player.

"We wanted to find an A-back, and this was a guy that was on our board and we had rated really well."

Ganaway rushed for 1,547 yards and 21 touchdowns last season, setting Baylor single-season records in both categories.
