The Buffalo Bills have been lacking a whole lot on defense. The pass rush is no exception.
Buffalo's sack numbers this season are about as telling as any stat in the book. While its 17 quarterback takedowns rank in the middle of the NFL, there is a distinct divide between sack totals in the Bills' wins and losses.
In Buffalo's three victories, the defense has amassed an impressive 14 sacks. What's not impressive is the Bills' whopping three sacks in four losses.
Thursday, Bills defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt said Buffalo's front four is the "bread and butter" of the defense.
". . . we're gonna live and die with those guys," he said, according to the teams website. "And when they're clicking and they're cranking and they're making plays, it makes up for a lot of problems, coverage wise, run-wise, everything."
With more than $125 million in new money tied into defensive ends Mario Williams and Mark Anderson, the Bills have fed most of their bread and butter to the defensive line. Now, Buffalo needs a little consistency from the group, which also boasts a pretty good pair of interior linemen in Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams.
