The New England Patriots have been a wide receiver carousel the past half decade, and few receivers got as much out of the ride as Randy Moss.
The now-San Francisco 49ers wideout caught 23 touchdowns during the Patriots' record-setting 2007 campaign and helped New England's offense score over 38 points a game en route to a near-perfect season that fell a game short in the Super Bowl. (photo: Dave Rezendes, Flickr)
“He’s an explosive, dynamic player that’s probably the smartest receiver I’ve ever coached,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the 49ers media in a conference call Wednesday. “I know he absolutely knows what he’s doing, knows what the defense is doing and knows how to attack the defense.”
The Patriots are known to shower upcoming opponents with compliments, but that's some pretty high praise from one of the greatest coaches ever.
Moss, who will be up against his former team Sunday, was traded from New England in 2010 after some early-season turbulence with the organization and went on to play for the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans that year.
He didn't play football in 2011 and signed with the 49ers before this season.
“Before I got to New England, I thought I knew a lot about football,” he said. “But I think he taught me a lot from A to Z and I still carry it to this day."
