QB numbers show Dolphins go as Tannehill goes

BY SEAN DONOVAN

The Miami Dolphins drafted Ryan Tannehill high in the first round with the expectation that he would be the quarterback of the future.

The franchise's long-term future will most certainly hinge on how the young signal-caller performs in coming years. But as the Dolphins are learning, so has this season. (photo: June Rivera, Flickr)

In Miami's seven losses, Tannehill has thrown three touchdowns to 11 interceptions. In five victories, he's thrown four touchdowns to just one interception.

In the Dolphins' latest five-game stretch, in which the team has gone 1-4 and fallen out of realistic playoff contention, the rookie has thrown twice as many picks (6) as touchdowns (3).

So as Tannehill goes, as have the Dolphins.

In fact, when Tannehill has earned a passer rating of 91.0 or above, the Dolphins are 4-0. When rated 90.9 or below, Miami has a 0-7 record.

The one game excluded was the Dolphins' Week 8 victory over the New York Jets, in which Tannehill left early due to injury.
