It took a day longer than expected, but the New York Jets named their new general manager Friday. Former Seattle Seahawks vice president of football administration John Idzik will succeed Mike Tannenbaum to head the front office in Florham Park.

The Jets also found their new offensive coordinator in former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, as first reported by Adam Caplan of PhiladelphiaEagles.com.
While Idzik will be tackling his first head general manager task, he certainly has the credentials. Before spending the last six years in Seattle, Idzik served as the Arizona Cardinals' senior director of football operations for three years and was the assistant general manager for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prior to that.
Idzik somehow got the reputation of being a "cap" guy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but not entirely accurate. Idzik has ample experience evaluating personnel at all levels and spent some time coaching as an assistant in the NFL. He also played college ball.
As for Mornhinweg, the Jets' offense is now a far cry from the ground-and-pound style Jets coach Rex Ryan used to be in love with. Mornhinweg brings with him a West Coast offense, which throws an even bigger wrench into Gang Green's quarterback situation, which again, probably isn't a bad thing.
Idzik's inaugural press conference is slated for Thursday, and as of Friday evening, the Jets have yet to make Mornhinweg official.
