Rex Ryan loves Mike Pettine. He doesn't love the Buffalo Bills.

“Mike Pettine is going to have several opportunities as a defensive coordinator,” Ryan said Tuesday. “Today I know he interviews with the Buffalo Bills. I’m hoping he doesn’t take that job. I hope he goes somewhere else.
"Mike and I have been together for over 10 years. He’s a tremendous coach. We’ve had conversations. Mike thinks it’s best that he go to a different team as a defensive coordinator, and I wish him all the best unless he goes to Buffalo. But I love Mike and I respect him.”
Pettine and Ryan, who were together in Baltimore before coming to the Jets, instantly made Gang Green's defense elite and maintained that status through their four years in New York.
Not only would Pettine be an instant upgrade in Buffalo, but he knows all, or most of, Rex's secrets. That would make for quite the chess match when the two square off if he did in fact join the Bills.
Jets defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman will take over as New York's defensive coordinator.
