Vince Wilfork is a big dude, but it can be argued that no defensive player in the NFL is a better athlete in relation to his size than the New England Patriots' man in the middle.
Wilfork, a 31-year-old, 325-plus pound defensive tackle who has been in the pro game for a decade, has spent more time on the field over the past two years than any other defensive lineman in the league. (photo: JDN, Flickr)
According to ESPN Stats & Information, Wilfork has taken 2,214 snaps through the 2011-12 regular seasons and playoffs. Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has amassed a second-most 2,191 snaps in that timeframe.
But it's not just Wilfork's workload that defines him as an athletic big man. He force three fumbles and recovered six over the past two seasons. In that span, Wilfork has also defensed 11 passes and grabbed two interceptions.
Via ESPN stats, Wilfork has nine sacks and 12 "stuffs" in the last two regular seasons and postseasons combined.
Short story shorter, Wilfork is an incredibly important piece to the Patriots' defense. Entering his tenth season, he's playing his best football.
