New York Jets right tackle Austin Howard was an upgrade over Wayne Hunter last season, and for Jets, that's a start.
Gang Green placed a second-round tender on the restricted free agent, as reported Monday by Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

If the Jets refused to counter, they'd receive a second round pick as compensation. Long story short, Howard will be a Jet this summer and probably beyond.
Pro Football Focus had Howard graded highly last season as a run blocker but poorly in pass protection. According to PFF, Howard gave up 30 quarterback hurries, 10 hits and 10 sacks.
The Jets also tendered tight end Jeff Cumberland at the end of last week.
