Fins' intentions in 1st round? Depends who you ask

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The more signings the Miami Dolphins make in free agency, the more directions they can go in the draft. And there are plenty of directions.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald used a morning blog post to address and assess a handful of rumors regarding the Dolphins' draft intentions, all of which you've heard.

The general takeaway is that we really don't have a clue.

That's mostly a good thing for general manager Jeff Ireland, who isn't showing his cards and is responsible for putting the Dolphins in position to go a number of ways. That aside, in my opinion, offensive tackle looks like the pick. (And as I'm writing this, Salguero posted some comments from Ireland today.)

"We're going to try to upgrade the offensive line as a whole," Ireland said, among a few other vague statements.

Miami didn't bring back veteran tackle Jake Long and isn't showing a whole lot of urgency to fill the void via a free-agent signing like Eric Winston. Plus, with Mike Pouncey emerging as a top-teir center and the team in the midst of developing now second-year tackle Jonathan Martin, now is a very good time to add another cog to the front puzzle.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reported a few days ago that agent Drew Rosenhaus said he's "hearing from everyone" that the Dolphins plan on taking a tackle in the first round.

I'm only hearing that from the voice inside my head. But it's enough for me.
