Jets add another kicker to challenge Folk for job

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The New York Jets have a history of challenging their incumbent kickers and punters with competition in camp. Nick Folk is no exception.

A month after signing Derek Dimke to push Folk in re-earning his job, Gang Green added another boot in undrafted Nebraska product Brett Maher Sunday.

Maher was good on 39 of his 50 collegiate attempts. He joined the team as a walk-on but was given a scholarship in 2012.

Among a plethora of accolades, the former Cornhusker earned a pair of All-Big Ten first team honors. He also excelled as the team's punter the past two seasons and was 3-for-5 on field goals from 50 yards or more last year.

Folk, who competed with Josh Brown last year for his current gig, tailed a 21-of-27 field goal make-rate in 2012, with his longest 3-pointer coming 54 yards out.
