New draft dates not permanent, at least not yet

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The 2014 NFL Draft will be held two week later than normal, which, according to the league, is due to a scheduling conflict at Radio City Music Hall.

The next draft is scheduled for May 8-10, two weeks after its normal end-of-April spot. Speculation is abound that the new dates will be familiar beyond next year as the NFL continues its quest to make its seasonal sport into an all-year-round spectacle -- as if it hasn't done so already.

According to the Washington Times, the NFL is exploring a "variety of alternatives," including different draft sites.

No matter when the draft is held, or where, the NFL continues to be newsworthy. If it's not the regular season, it's the postseason. If it's not the postseason, it's the draft and free agency. If it's not the draft or free agency, it's OTAs, mini-camps and training camp. Then it's the preseason. Then it's the regular season all over.

Whether the league decides to keep the draft in May instead of April, we'll all be watching.
