But until then, he's acting the part. Sanchez's annual pre-preseason camp in California, which is open to Jets skill position players, kicked off this week.
And more, rookie Geno Smith -- Sanchez's direct competition for the first string signal-caller gig -- isn't in attendance.
Kristian R. Dyer of Metro New York reported via Twitter Thursday morning, citing a source, that Smith wasn't out West with his fellow Gang Green offenders. Instead, as pointed out by @PatriotsXLVIII in a reply to Dyer's tweet, Smith is currently training at Bommarito Performance in Florida.
Per this photo, as tweeted by Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Smith is working with the likes of Brown and former West Virginia teammate Tavon Austin, who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, among others.
There's still time for Smith to join his teammates, but he may be content where he is, soaking in all the information offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and quarterbacks coach David Lee put on his lap before the squad broke from minicamp. He will, however, miss out on bonus work time with some of his future pass-catchers -- both to bond and build on-field chemistry.
