Hats are more newsworthy when they relate to the AFC East.
To the entertainment of Miami Dolphins fans, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was recently spotted sporting a Dolphins cap. But now, the hat being worn by one of their own isn't so amusing.
In this photo (via Deadspin), Dolphins center Mike Pouncey and his brother, Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey, are shown at a club in high spirits boasting a pair of caps that read "Free Hernandez."
Hernandez, as we all know, is sitting in jail right now after being arrested and charged with murder last month. He was denied bail.
Both Pounceys were teammates of Hernandez at the University of Florida and are apparently joining the incredibly small group of public celebrity supporters of Hernandez.
In addition to the obvious bad taste of the hats, the Pounceys aren't exactly showing their savvy when you consider, according to ProFootballTalk, that "both have had their names come up in connection with the unsolved September 2007 shooting that may or may not have involved Hernandez."
We're not saying they're at all involved in any wrongdoing, just that this makes them look a little less-than-bright. There's nothing wrong with showing support and loyalty for your friend. But in this instance, just shut up.
