Mike Goodson says he's ready.
The New York Jets tailback returns to the lineup this week after having served a four-game suspension that followed his absence from the entirety of training camp for personal issues.
While Goodson was able to sit in on meetings and work out at the team's headquarters the last four weeks, he wasn't allowed to practice with the team or attend games. He's been buried in the playbook, but he has a lot of catching up to do from an on-field standpoint.
“I’m healthy and strong and ready to play," Goodson said Monday, via Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday.
The Jets will undoubtedly try to get Goodson into the mix at running back as soon as possible given Chris Ivory's injury issues and Goodson's Marty Mornhinweg-friendly skill set, but he could first be thrust into action by way of another unit.
Goodson has been involved in special teams meetings in recent weeks and may see his speed utilized in the kick return game.
". . . wherever they choose to put me in there, just bring a spark," Goodson said.
New York (2-2) returns to action next Monday night when it travels to Atlanta to take on the Falcons.
