Kyle Wilson had a very yellow fourth quarter Sunday.
The New York Jets cornerback was responsible for four the team's franchise-record 20 penalties in a victory over the Buffalo Bills, getting flagged four plays in a row (five total, with one offset) before being pulled by Rex Ryan.
". . . stuff kind of happens sometimes," Wilson said Tuesday at an NFL Play60 event at a middle school in Florham Park, via Dan Duggan of Newsday.
Wilson got into a physical contest with Bills receiver Stevie Johnson, who clearly was getting into Wilson's head. Johnson effectively took Wilson off his game, and ultimately Ryan had to take Wilson off the field.
"Kyle was having a really good game and then I think he let a personal thing affect him," Ryan said Monday. "And the thing about that, it affects the team. Kyle’s a smart player, but that’s a mistake, so we have to learn from it and we’ll move on, but learn from it all the same."
Wilson said Tuesday that he "can't comment on officiating" but said he'll get better.
Regardless of who is playing where and when, the Jets' defense is getting it done. Gang Green gave the Bills eight first downs to penalties and were put into a couple short-yardage situations by the offense, and they stopped the bleeding as well as they could, as has been the case through three games.
The Jets are the only team to hold opposing quarterback to a completion percentage below 50. Opposing quarterbacks are connecting on just 47.3 percent of their attempts.
