Last spring, running back Shonn Greene likely circled this week on the calendar when he saw his Tennessee Titans were facing his former team, the New York Jets.
Unfortunately, the only circling he'll do Sunday, if he's even present, is circling the field during warmups.
Greene won't be a go for the Titans' Week 4 bout with Gang Green, as he's recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery. The Titans think he would have been a big asset going up against one of the best run defenses in the league.
"Unfortunately he got hurt in the opener and so that kind hurt us a little bit on offense and that’ll hurt us in this game," Titans coach Mike Munchak told the New York media Wednesday. "This is a game where he obviously would’ve been highly motivated to run well, but again with this type of defense, he’s the kind of back that’s a little harder to stop and, like I said, can get the tough yards."
Greene was drafted by the Jets in 2009 and had entered the last three seasons as the No. 1 tailback, leading the team in rushing the last two seasons. He became a free agent in March and signed with the Titans.
"I know this one meant a lot to him," Munchak said.
The veteran back is expected to return to game action next week.
