Vet Spiller hopes rookies don't get complacent

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The Buffalo Bills had a lot to be excited about following their last-second victory over the Carolina Panthers last Sunday. But every second thinking about that game is another second lost thinking about the next game.

Buffalo is slated for a somewhat high-stakes divisional bout with the New York Jets Sunday, and running back C.J. Spiller is trying to keep the youngsters on the team focused on the task at hand.

“We just need to keep them on an even keel,” Spiller said, via BuffaloBills.com. ”If you get excited… you should be happy about the win, but we can’t get complacent and dwell on this win for the whole week. We’ve got to move on and get ready for the Jets.

"This is a division game and we’re already 0-1, so this is a two-for as we used to call it. So we have to make them understand that it’s good to get that win, but the focus has to shift over.”

Spiller is the Bills' best player, and it's good to see he's accepting more of a leadership role in his fourth season.

The Bills are 1-1, and as he pointed out, 0-1 in the division. With both the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins at 2-0 and the Patriots having a pair of divisional wins in their pockets already, Buffalo can ill-afford a Week 3 loss, especially against an AFC East foe.
