Some advice for Marquice Cole: Don't go too far.
The New England Patriots announced the signing of the veteran nickel and dime cornerback Monday, marking the fifth time in less than two years -- and fourth time in seven months -- that they officially acquired his services.
Cole, a former New York Jet who stands at 5-10, 190 pounds, was signed by New England in March of 2012 and again last March. He was released, signed and released in September before being signed and cut at the beginning of this month.
He's back.
The Patriots also announced the release of safety Kanorris Davis and linebacker Ja'Gared Davis, a pair of reserve defenders signed last week to fill in on special teams.
Cole played in the Patriots' first three games this season but didn't record any statistics. He made 14 appearances in the 2012 regular season and dressed for both of the team's playoff games.
