Geno feels 'more decisive' running football of late

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Geno Smith showed off his wheels in his NFL debut, but he's been a bit conservative running the football for most of the season.

Over the last two weeks, however, the New York Jets rookie quarterback has flashed some serious running ability. Smith has carried the football 11 times in that span, amassing 94 yards and a touchdown, including a career-long scamper of 32 yards.

"I have always felt comfortable with it, I just think now I’m more decisive," Smith said Monday, via NewYorkJets.com. "I’m seeing things better, I’m seeing lanes better, knowing when the opportunity is there.

"I still think I can do a better job, maybe making guys miss down field, doing something else to kind of juice it up a little, give us an extra spark that I think we can all use."

Smith's recent spike in using his legs has come outside of the red zone, as he's always been a threat on the ground inside the 20-yard line.

Smith has four rushing touchdowns to his name in his young career. He's eighth in rushing yards among quarterbacks and tied for the second-most ground scores in his position.
