The Miami Dolphins had a lot riding on their divisional bout with the Buffalo Bills.
A victory would've bumped them to the outright lead in the race for the last Wildcard spot, while a loss puts them in a must-win situation next week, with even that not guaranteeing a playoff berth.
Meanwhile, the Bills have been well out of the playoff picture for weeks and are playing out the season as a formality. Buffalo, however, insists it still has plenty to play for.
And Sunday, the Bills played liked a team with a lot on the line.
"Yeah, Miami had a lot to play for coming in but so did we," Bills running back Fred Jackson said after his team's 19-0 whooping of the Dolphins. "We wanted to finish this season strong and they were a team we needed to beat."
Coming off a season sweep of the Dolphins, the Bills finish their 2013 campaign by paying a visit to the New England Patriots next Sunday.
Jackson, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries against Miami, has plenty of motivation in the tank for that test, too.
"We’ve got a great opportunity next week to go on and
win a game in New England, which I haven’t done since I’ve been here," Jackson said. "Those are the little things that we’re looking for on focusing on our
team. "
