The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets have enjoyed one of the most evenly-matched rivalries in the NFL for quite some time now.
While each team has a few multi-season winning streaks over the other, it's been close to a wash throughout history, with the Jets leading the all-time series by a 49-46-1 margin.
"As a Dolphin, the minute you get here you kind of realize that’s a game that a lot of guys circle on their calendar," Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake said this week, via MiamiDolphins.com.
The teams have split the last three seasons, with the Dolphins winning the second of two matches in each.
This year, however, Miami seeks its first sweep of the Jets since 2009. The Dolphins, who beat Gang Green earlier this month, 23-3, need a win over New York Sunday for any shot at the postseason.
"Obviously, it’s a storied history with our rivals in the division, but at this time of the year it’s another must-win and it’s our biggest game of the year," Wake said. "They just happen to be the Jets as well."
The Dolphins have had recent success in such games of late, cutting off any hope for a Jets playoff berth in 2011 and ousting New York in 2008 to propel themselves into the postseason.
