Projected franchise tag numbers for 2014

BY NICK ST. DENIS

With the green flag for teams to use their respective franchise tag designations set to drop Wednesday, former sports agent and CBS Sports writer Joel Corry projected the costs per position.

Corry used both the early projected total cap number ($126.3 million) as well as the $128 million cap number multiple executives have hinted at to him.

Here are the numbers:

2014 projected franchise numbers
Pos.     $126.3 mil.      $128 mil.     Cap %
CB     $11,238,000     $11,389,000      8.9
DE    $12,455,000     $12,623,000      9.86
DT      $9,168,000       $9,291,000      7.26
LB     $10,878,000     $11,024,000     8.61
OL     $11,109,000     $11,258,000      8.8
P/K      $3,377,000       $3,423,000     2.67
QB     $16,060,000     $16,276,000    12.72
RB       $9,060,000       $9,182,000     7.17

TE        $6,698,000       $6,788,000    5.3
WR     $11,520,000     $11,675,000    9.12

The New England Patriots aren't expected to use their tag, though the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins have legitimate tag candidates in safety Jairus Byrd and cornerback Brent Grimes, respectively. The New York Jets have virtually no use of the tag, though Corry suggests kicker Nick Folk is a possibility.
