After Edelman, Patriots deepen WR corps with LaFell

BY NICK ST. DENIS

The New England Patriots made a major offensive move Saturday in re-signing their top receiver in Julian Edelman.

They made another move later in the day, albeit a minor one, at the same position.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots reached a three-year agreement with former Carolina Panthers wideout Brandon LaFell. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported just minutes after Schefter's report that the team was working on a three-year deal in the ballpark of $11 million.

LaFell, who recently drew interest from the division rival New York Jets and conference rival Denver Broncos, hauled in 49 receptions for 627 yards and five touchdowns last season.

The fifth-year receiver has decent size at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, and recently worked mainly out of the slot with the Panthers but can play on the outside if need be. He'll help provide depth within a young receiver corps.
