Every year, the NFL awards 32 compensatory draft picks depending on free agent losses and gains from the prior offseason. This year, 13 teams were the beneficiaries of said handouts.
The New York Jets received four compensatory picks, tied with the Baltimore Ravens for the league most, while the New England Patriots nabbed one.
The Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, however, didn't get any, as they both signed more players than they lost a season ago.
Here's the breakdown of the players lost-players gained for the Jets and Patriots, which resulted in their receiving the extra late-round picks:
JETS
Lost: Yeremiah Bell, Mike DeVito, Shonn Greene, Dustin Keller, LaRon Landry, Matt Slauson.
Gained: Antwan Barnes, Mike Goodson.
(The Jets gained a late fourth-rounder and three sixth-rounders.)
PATRIOTS
Lost: Patrick Chung, Donald Thomas, Wes Welker, Danny Woodhead.
Gained: Danny Amendola, Isaac Sopoaga, Will Svitek.
(The Patriots gained a fourth-rounder.)
