This offseason, the Buffalo Bills have put together a solid corps of run-stuffers to surround Kiko Alonso, and the team's third-round linebacker Preston Brown plans to be in the fold.
Brown, however, is hoping get a few shots at opposing quarterback, as well.
“It seems exciting and what I’ve read so far there are a lot of blitzes and different packages in there that I’ve learned,” he said Tuesday of his new playbook, via BuffaloBills.com. “I know we blitzed a lot at Louisville and I’ll have fun here doing that.”
Brown has made his name as a run-stopper throughout the draft process, though the Louisville product's team-leading tackle totals two years is evidence that he's capable of making plays all over the field.
“I think tackling is one of the best things I do. It’s one of the main parts of the game,” Brown prior to the draft. “You’ve got to be able to tackle, especially if you’re going to be a linebacker. I try to be around the ball as much as I can and get forced fumbles anyway I could when I was around the ball.”
New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will be expected to keep the heat on this year, as the Bills showed increased success defensively last year through Mike Pettine’s exotic blitz packages.
Brown doesn't project to be an instant starter, but his size and versatility could lead him to the field sooner than expected, working in rotation with veteran Brandon Spikes.
