Pats' new OL coach 'different voice saying same things'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Dave DeGuglielmo has some big shoes to fill in taking over for New England Patriots longtime offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia.

That doesn't mean he won't try.

DeGuglielmo told Patriots.com this week that he's coming into Foxborough with the term "maintain" on his mind, saying that he'll employ similar lingo and schematics as Scarnecchia while serving as a “different voice saying the same things.”

How that translates to the field is yet to be seen, though Scar's lingo seemed to work just fine, as the legendary assistant put out an above average-to-elite unit year in, year out, despite entering some seasons--especially in the last few years--with some question marks at different spots.

Guge will be tasked with keeping that trend going. So far, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels likes what he sees.

“Dave has come in and done a really good job of establishing what he’s going to be like,” McDaniels said. “There will be a lot of differences and probably some similarities. The players have really grasped his style so far very well and I really enjoy working with him."
