Dolphins' Pouncey 'just getting back in the groove'

BY NICK ST. DENIS

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey is finally back on the practice field. Well, maybe "finally" isn't the best choice of words, since it's earlier than originally expected.

Pouncey took the field Tuesday for the first time since his June hip surgery, and by his account, things are moving along.

“Just getting back in the groove, it felt good to be back here with my football team,” Pouncey said, via MiamiDolphins.com. “I felt normal. It feels normal. It just feels good to get back in the stance without it hurting again.

"Right now it’s just listening to what the team doctors tell me as far as how many reps I take in practice, but I’m full go almost.”

Pouncey is unlikely to play Sunday when the team hosts the Kansas City Chiefs, though it seems he's a bit ahead of where many thought he was this summer when the Dolphins were deciding whether to put him on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, which would have kept him out the first six weeks of the season.

They opted to keep him off the list. And just three weeks in, Pouncey is now working to "get into football shape." Once that happens, it seems he'll be good to go.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is being cautiously optimistic, though he can't help but be pleased to have his best offensive lineman mixing it up again.

“It was good to have him out there,” Philbin said. “He did some things, got up in a stance a couple of times. He came off the ball a couple of times on a snap count. It was good to have him back.”
