The Buffalo Bills thought 33-year-old running back Fred Jackson still had plenty left in his tank when they signed him to yet another contract extension this summer.
Jackson confirmed the team's suspicions Sunday afternoon, ripping off a 38-yard scamper in overtime--with a powerful stiff arm, to boot--to help seal the Bills' season-opening 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears.
"I'm old but I can still play," Jackson said after the game, via ESPN.com.
The Bills fought off a second-half rally by the Bears and went into the extra period tied 20-20, forcing Chicago to punt before their game-winning-drive, capped off by Jackson's big scamper. Dan Carpenter split the uprights with a 27-yarder for the victory.
"We knew we had an opportunity to go win the game," Jackson said. "They got me in position to be one-on-one with the safety and anytime that happens I know I've gotta make a play."
Buffalo capitalized on three Chicago turnovers for 13 points and played mostly mistake-free throughout, sans an EJ Manuel interception. Manuel finished the day 16-for-22 for 173 yards and a touchdown, adding a score on the ground.
Robert Woods led the Bills with 78 yards on four receptions.
