Cornerback Ellis Lankster's return to the New York Jets didn't last long, though it may not be the end.
The special teams specialist was released Tuesday for the second time this month, as announced by the team.
The Jets also announced they signed cornerback Brandon Smith, though they later clarified that the Smith signing was a practice squad move, meaning the team still has a spot open on the 53-man roster.
Lankster has spent the last three seasons with the Jets before getting cut at the beginning of September and re-signing less than two weeks later.
The 6-1, 205-pound Smith, meanwhile, reportedly worked out for the Jets earlier in the day.
