The Miami Dolphins are all of a sudden extremely thin at tailback with Knowshon Moreno going down to injury, so they're replacing him with the guy he pretty much put out of a job this summer.
The Dolphins announced Monday they re-signed running back Daniel Thomas, who the team released at the end of August.
Thomas spent the last three seasons underwhelmingly in the Dolphins' backfield, most recently sitting behind Lamar Miller on the depth chart before being knocked down further upon the Dolphins' signing of Moreno this offseason.
The former second-rounder, however, is back, as Moreno is reportedly out several weeks with a dislocated elbow he sustained Sunday in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.
"We think he can help us right now," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said of Thomas, via MiamiDolphins.com.
The Dolphins placed cornerback Sammy Seamster on injured reserve to make room for Thomas on the roster, where five running back now reside.
Miller sat out the end of the Bills game to a minor ankle issue, though he's expected to re-assume top duties this coming week and will take a bigger share of the carries until Moreno returns, assuming he's healthy.
